The two year English GCSE is for students who are in the formative stages of building their English skills. The first year of the course will focus on developing key vocabulary for GCSE, developing accuracy and range in punctuation, spelling and grammar and producing writing in the form of brief essays that allow the student to focus on skills rather than length.

In addition, reading skills will be developed through shared reading of class novels and stories, and creative writing tasks will be designed around the reading interests of the student. The primary aim of the module in the first year is to develop English skills through enjoyment of English.

The second year will build on the skills developed in the first year but a sharper focus on the examination requirements will be a feature, and students will begin to apply what they have learned with reference to the examinations.
